“Pubic” instead of “public” is a rather common mistake, “united” is often left “untied”, and famous Roman poet “Virgil” is sometimes erroneously referred to as “Virgin”.
Don’t ask us why. But what we can tell you is that our editors and proofreaders spot spelling, grammar, structural, register and other language mistakes without fail. We offer editing services for a multitude of requests and always match the subject matter to an editor with expertise in that field.
The Difference Between Editing And Proofreading
Editing entails a grammatical and stylistic improvement of your writing. This is called a language edit. It could also include improvement of the content, should you require this. This is called copy editing. We normally do a language edit and include comments in the margin related to content issues we’ve picked up. We work in track changes, giving you the opportunity to see all the changes made and to either accept or reject them.
Proofreading is done after editing and focuses on any technical errors remaining after editing. These typically include typing and spelling errors, as well as sorting out consistency issues (making sure the same style, terms and spelling are used throughout).
Our editing quotes include proofreading, also called pre-typeset proofreading.
Another set of proofreading should be done after typesetting. This is to capture and correct any mistakes that might have slipped in during the typesetting process and is called post-typeset proofreading. We normally charge extra for post-typesetting proofreading.
